How to Clean Your Home Safely (During the Covid-19 Health Crisis)

Sanitization vs. Disinfection

Sanitization: removes and cleanses 99.9% of bacteria and microbes

Disinfection: destroys bacteria and microbes by 99.999%.

It’s essential to know the difference between these two terms. This way, you’ll be able to take the right steps to properly clean your home.

To begin with, you’ll need to sanitize surfaces or objects to reduce the number of microbes. This will pave the way for disinfection, enabling you to render unwanted viruses inactive.

No need to go to the store and purchase powerful chemical cleaners. Chances are your home contains the tools you need to sanitize and disinfect your living environment.

  • What you’ll need to sanitize: microfiber cloths, soap and water
  • What you’ll needfor disinfecting: 70% isopropyl alcohol or 3% hydrogen peroxide

We recommend using microfiber cloths, as they capture microbes and dirt more effectively than regular cotton cloths.

To facilitate hydrogen peroxide or alcohol application, a spray bottle can be used. Note, however, that hydrogen peroxide can oxidize and decompose in contact with light. For this reason, the product is sold in an opaque brown bottle.

Microfiber cloths, 70% alcohol, 3% hydrogen peroxide

Clean (sanitize) surfaces prone to the spread of the virus using a microfiber cloth, soap and water. Once the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and dried, spray with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to disinfect.

Waiting period

Allow the disinfectant to act for 5 minutes before wiping.

* Make sure to fold the micro-fiber into sixths; using a clean side for each surface.
